Okay... I am totally hooked!!!

Wen Spencer with the narration of Tanya Eby not only made me care about the main characters from the very beginning, but also made their worlds implausibly real. By doing that, my own imagination took flight making the storyline my own... as if I was actually there by invitation. This is a very intoxicating and compelling combination of traits that signals a great read! I can't wait to listen to the next book in the series!!! 8-)

Physics and a 18 year old a little hard to believe

I suspended all idea's of realism and found this book most enjoyable. There is just enough action to keep you riveted and enough magic to suspend reality. I also love the fact that the characters in the book are not perfect and when they make mistakes it is world shattering.

Great world building and characters

The story was well written and enjoyable. I liked the main characters. The romance was sweet and only caused me to roll my eyes a few times. Overall the pros outweighed the cons. Just once though I would like a strong female to act like a woman and not a swooning idiot. "Make love to me Wind Wolf!" Ack gag cough gag vomit vomit. Just No.

No. It was still a good book!

Elfhome was a good read! It wasn't as humorous as I would have liked but many fantasy genre authors don't include a lot of humor in their writing. Terry Pratchet has become kind of redundant in his attempt at it.
Even so I would highly recommend this book! It is a fun read!

Great first novel!

Tinker had been in my wish list for at least 18 months. When it went on sale for $2.95 sale I brought it. Tinker gabbed my attention with a fight of an elf, and enhanced dogs called wargs. She was genetically engineered by her grandfather with genes from her talented father.

There are many species that are involved in the story. Elves who are at the top of the hierarchy, humans and the villains, the Oni. The Oni live on a planet with dwindling resources and a rising population. Years ago, a “gate” was created and some Oni were able to travel to earth. They live in secret among the humans. Tinker’s grasp of technology, as well as her grasp of magic theory and the integration between the two makes her the ideal person to create another gate (her father created the first one). The gate will permit the Oni to invade the worlds of elves and humans.

Elves and humans must work together to save themselves from the genocide planned by the Oni. Yet, there is animosity between the Elves and humans, which makes it extremely difficult for them to work together. The author creates a situation (magic and sex) where Tinker is the catalyst to save the worlds. With all that action, I am hooked.

would have been better without the sexual violence

I agree with another reviewer- too rapey for me. The sexual violence was put of step with the rest of the story.

An excellent fantasy, finally available on Audible

Welcome to Pittsburgh, but a Pittsburgh that spends 29 days out of every 30 on Elfhome, a world of elves and magic, but then comes Shutdown and Pittsburgh is back in the USA where there is almost no magic.

First up, meet Alexander Graham Bell, better known as Tinker, the owner of Pittsburgh Scrap and Salvage. A mere 5 feet tall, but possessed of a brilliant scientific mind and an indomitable spirit. As we approach shutdown, Wolf Who Rules (aka, Windwolf), the head of the Wind Clan and Viceroy of the elven lands where Pittsburgh lives for 29 out of 30 days, is being chased across the city by a pack of wargs. But the wargs make a fatal mistake, chasing Windwolf into Tinker's scrap yard, and that's the end of the wargs! But also very nearly the end of Windwolf, who is gravely injured in the battle.

With no magic in Pittsburg during shutdown, Windwolf is unable to heal himself. Tinker uses a magic "capacitor" that she's built and filled while Pittsburgh was on Elfhome, combined with a healing spell she prints out on her printer, and Windwolf survives the day long shutdown. And the fun is just beginning!

This wonderful series from Wen Spencer is finally available in audiobook form, with Tanya Eby as the narrator. A great series, and a good narrator. I'm glad to finally have this series on Audible, and I'm enjoying it a lot. Highly recommended.

Interesting for new series

I am not sure how I feel about this book. To be honest, as the series progresses it explode. But for right now I likes it. Definitely worth looking at the second book
